Jim Porter (Japanese: ポーター承太郎 Pourtaa Jotaro) is one of the central characters of the Shining Bonds franchise. He is the leader, founder, and general of Team GDI. Prior to the series and all of his adventures, he was known as CACSS Prototype Unit-01, the first cyborg prototype. He also used to be a Galarian hero named Shadow Hunter after his retirement from military service and marriage with Catherine.
Jim can transform into the warrior of military power, Warrior Joestar, whose theme color is electric blue.
Bio
Appearance
Jim is a 48-year old cyborg with the appearance of a 18-year old boy who has electric-blue hair and eyes. He wears a aquamarine green and black hat with a Pokémon ball logo, a white and matching aquamarine short-sleeved jacket with a undershirt underneath, black shorts with blue pockets and sneakers in the same color as his clothes. He also carries a black backpack, which makes him look similar to Scottie's origin counterpart.
As Shadow Hunter, ()
As Warrior Joestar, (Cheerful will get ideas later)
As Miinya Warrior Joestar, his suit turns white with a big treble clef insignia on the chest while his hair also turns pure white with cyan tips. He gains a pair of Miinya ears while his technological eyes turn sapphire blue, and he gains a white tail. He gains deep red and sapphire blue gloves and a cyan collar. (Glorysia, Foody, help!)
As Miracle Joestar, ()
As Solar Vanguard Joestar, ()
As Vortex Ranger Joestar, ()
As Nebula Mage Joestar, ()
As Stardust Templar Joestar, ()
As Celestial Guardian Joestar, ()
As Cosmic Aegis Joestar, ()
As Shining Cosmic Prism Aegis Joestar, His hair turns very pale cyan while his eyes turn the same color, with a small silver "manly" crown. He has diamond-encrusted jetpacks, a diamond-encrusted deep sky blue suit, and golden Super Why!-like rocket shoes. The Prism is also placed as a chest bow. (Add any additional ideas here, Foody!)
In Shining Bonds a la Mode: 340 Years Later, he looks mostly the same, except that his arms are replaced with vacuum tubes connecting him to the inside of a gigantic mecha with the GDI logo. There are several names of the past heroes (including Jim's family members) on the right side of the mecha, which appeared to be written by Jim just to mourn their deaths.
Personality
Jim is serious, has a gentle heart, and is loyal to those he likes, and despite his Element of Harmony being Loyalty, he sometimes fights with those he knows, especially Cheren (who called him hideous after their first meeting). He is highly perceptive, intelligent and quick-witted while keeping a perpetually cool, slightly neutral or disinterested attitude.
Jim's most noticeable trait is his seemingly aloof nature. He is a quiet individual, often satisfied with expressing himself in short phrases. His bio explains that he thinks anyone can tell his emotions just by looking at him, and probably thinks further effort in portraying how he feels to be a waste of time, making others tend to perceive Jim as callous. Related to this, Jim is an extremely cool individual, able to keep his composure in even the direst situations. While he was shown to be mildly anxious when something unanticipated happens, Jim almost never goes as far as to lose his coolness.
But if there's nothing to do, then he is a simple, honest, direct, passionate, hot-headed, impetuous, and confrontational semi-immortal man. Furthermore, Jim is a foul-mouthed individual and regularly taunts his enemies, enjoying aggravating them. However, he's also a playful man and prefers fooling around over having any responsibility. By his own admission, his most hated sentences are "hard work" and "work hard". Jim has a fairly goofy side mixed with boastful nature and his love of pranks.
He does what is right, even if it's the more difficult choice. He won't go looking for trouble, but he won't run if it comes looking for him. His musical preferences lie in country rock (he also prefers dub-steps and the real-life music from the 70-90's too). As a teenager, he wasn't fond of classical music. He doesn't hate easily, but when he does so, it's intense. He is also uncomfortable with formal wear, preferring casual clothes, but rarely dresses up for a formal occasion when necessary.
He has a tendency of accidentally ora-ing someone who makes him shocked or surprised (much to Cheren's chagrin). His favorite sea animals are dolphins. In addition, he hates loud women. He also has a tendency of evading punishments, but he will only do that if an emergency meeting request is coming for him. He and Nanette, as they are very close friends, sometimes hug each other when they feel like it, which is where the jokes concerning them come from.
Relationships
- Liam, Elis, Marina & Nanette Daisy: The Daisies like these ones are a Porter's best friend. Jim is especially a VERY close friend to Nanette, but the two are unluckily prone to getting either jokes on being "like father like daughter" or shipped, always annoying everyone, but especially Marina. He was also good friends with Liam, and misses him dearly despite knowing both of them are married to different women.
- Catherine Starla: His girlfriend in SBSB, and later wife. Despite their constant fighting, they truly love each other.
- Lily Porter: His daughter. He cares for her greatly.
- Arcturus Porter I: His ancestor, whom he worships greatly, but not in a comedic way.
- Nijimia - At first, he refused to believe in paranormal angels like her, but after his first battle as Warrior Joestar, he has a change of heart concerning her and begins to treat her as a friend.
- Nicole Messerli: At first, Jim was unfriendly with Necrosis due to being a servant of evil, but after her reformation, he begins to regard her as a friend.
- Katrina Moonshade: Jim despised Event Horizon and like everyone else, was unaware that she wasn't evil by choice and didn't believe she could ever be made good. He seems to have an intense personal grudge against her due to her attempting to outright murder innocent civilians and Pokémon. After being freed by Angel Wing and brought to her senses, however, Jim forgives her and apologizes for having a grudge against her despite fearing she might not be completely back to normal (which luckily isn't true.) When she joins for the final battle, Jim angrily shouts at Queen Vera that she wasn't evil to begin with when she tries to bring her back to her side.
- June Porter: His twin sister.
- Karen Porter: His younger sister.
- Lucas Porter: His younger brother.
- Cheren Lawrence: His friendly rival. Despite often getting along, their constant fighting always triggers Bianca's jerky side.
- Nina Aarden: He recognizes her as the main character of the Myths of Unova comic. He sometimes idolizes her, much to her embarrassment.
Etymology
- Porter is a person employed to carry luggage and other loads, especially in a railroad station, airport, or hotel.
-
- Another meaning is that it's a type of beer, a dark brown bitter beer brewed from malt partly charred or browned by drying at a high temperature.
- He shares his Japanese name, Jotaro, with Jotaro Kujo from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, although the characters are not related.
- His alias Warrior Joestar is derived from the surname of the family from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, though like his Japanese name, it is a coincidence in-universe.
Technology
Despite being naturally gifted with superhuman attributes, Jim Porter was afforded some of the fastest reflexes made possible by modern-day technology, a memory assisted by an on-board computer and an E.V.A artificial intelligence system, programmed with a lifetime experience.
Jim also has a terminal strip, it is a sharp, spike-like device that protrudes from Jim's right fist, this device could be used by him to interface with a corresponding data port in order to download information from other sources and compare information he gathered. The device can be also used as a makeshift dagger.
Jim had an internal zoom capability built in for better aim as well as tracking, he also had different vision modes. His systems used a grid which was crucial to Jim's targeting as well as bullet trajectory, allowing him to make ricochet shots. His programming prevented him from targeting children. He also had a recorder which could detect voice fluctuations and stress as well as play back audio/visual. This recording capability enabled Jim to document any situation he encountered with perfect recall and unbiased neutrality, with his memory being deemed through legal agreement as admissible evidence in a court of law. He also possessed a directional microphone with which he could track conversations from a distance. It was very sensitive, as he could hear vehicles approaching from afar despite being indoors.
Jim's body, while incorporating portions of his living tissue, was largely electronic and mechanical. This interior structure was protected by a synthetic ultra-light bio-titanium armored shell composite laminated with Kevlar and various alloys, making him incredibly resilient against both bombs, bullets and physical damages, as well as extreme impacts such as being hit by cars and falling off skyscrapers. The body armor could sustain many high-caliber rounds before damage began to appear on the armor itself. It was also highly resistant to heat and other directed-energy weaponry, as Jim was unaffected after being caught in a gas station explosion or being set on fire. However, he is somehow resistant against mind control and some of Event Horizon's dark powers, which make her necrotizing death rays seem to have no effect on him as he is mostly mechanical. His visor, which served as his eyes, was made of bulletproof glass which protected the artificial cranium apparatus and internal artificial eyes. The visor also had an undercloth of Kevlar, which protected the neck and covered up any wires.
Despite all of Jim's technological advances, he was still limited to mechanical maintenance, which meant that he needed servicing and tune-ups from time to time. On top of that, his organic systems needed to be monitored as well, therefore the scientist working on him, such as his niece Ellie Porter, would have to monitor both systems.
Despite his impressive reflexes and durability coupled with naturally-gifted superhuman attributes, he is quite vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses, strong magnetism, or water. Due to his eyes and ears being technological, he is completely incapable of seeing, hearing, or otherwise detecting Kwamis (which can't be detected by any form of technology), as shown when Trixx and Tikki took a stroll in the Pokémon world from the Miraculous Ladybug universe (when they traveled through the Multiverse Embassy) and Jim was confused at who the other heroes were talking to.
Another one of Jim's faults was that he was also programmable, meaning that in the wrong hands, he could be programmed to be incompetent, corrupted, or a dangerous threat to society.
He occasionally had flashbacks of his previous life as a human, which caused him to have "dreams" when he was sleeping or even in his power saving mode. This sometimes caused him to sleepwalk or wake up in shock.
Weapons & Equipment
- Arcturus's Sword - Jim's main melee weapon, being given by his own ancestor to become its successor. Not knowing what powers the sword has besides instantly purifying the darkness, the true potential of the sword is unknown.
- The Zenith - The second upgrade of the sword itself, ()
- Blade of the Cosmos - The sword's final upgrade and occasionally called "Celestial Sword", ()
- Celestial Stones - Jim's main source of cosmic and light powers.
- GD-11 Sub-machine Gun
- FGM-148 Javelin - An American anti-tank missile launcher he don't use much.
- GD-0 Frag Grenade
- Flashlight
- Journal
- Medical Kit
- Food Rations
- Crowbar - A tool he used to pry things off, but also used as an weapon if he lost his sword.
- Spare ammunition
- Solar Vanguard-Pattern CMC-470 Power Armour - As seen in Jim's Solar Form, ()
- Vortex Ranger-Pattern CMC-250 Zone Armour - As seen in Jim's Vortex Form, ()
- Nebula Mage-Pattern CMC-705 Power Armour - As seen in Jim's Nebula Form, ()
- Stardust Templar-Pattern CMC-890 Terminator Armour - As seen in Jim's Stardust Form, ()
Magical Abilities
Warrior Joestar possesses enhanced physical abilities such as speed, strength, agility, invulnerability to physical damage, and the ability to fly, as well as the ability to earn fairy forms.
Joestar primarily has electricity-based magical powers, which he can fire as beams or bolts. He can also give electricity to Electric-type Pokémon to recharge their energy. It appears he can control the amount as he can deliver a small static shock or a giant lightning bolt. He is also quite physically strong but must be wary of water as sufficient water can disrupt his powers, and strong magnetic fields can render his powers useless as well. His electricity can be used as a crude heat source as he can fry an enemy to an extent with enough voltage. He can transmit electricity into ammunition rounds, turning them into electric munitions.
He has one special ability that no villains or heroes have: copy the powers of any/every entity/object in existence; gaining not only all their abilities and level of power, but the status of the copied entity/object as well. That would also mean improvements on other aspects of this ability such as replicating any powers without any limit, thus he can retaining the powers he copied for much longer time, be in a far distance to copy his opponents' powers, access the full capabilities of the copied powers, and evolve/improve the powers he copied, without having to reach a painful limit. This is also the reason why he often tries to make himself versatile and useful in some ways, as Jim often saves copied powers for later use. In the reborn Multiverse, after Lyra Moonpath warned him not to overdo this ability, he eventually loses all of his abilities, senses and bodily functions (except for his heart and memories) for a short time and was laid to be cared for in the hospital.
List of Copied Powers/Abilities
- Summoning Nightmares (Event Horizon) - An ability he copied from his nemesis, but out of respect from Nanette, he never used it in the original Multiverse. In the reborn Multiverse, he starts to use it, but he instead summons the Dream Guardians without needing anything (not even Elemental Spirits) to help out. While it is unknown why this is the case, Magic Warriors like Cherry Miles usually have to give out the final blow instead.
- Vine Whip (Chester the Chespin) - From Chester, who he had in his party before Season 2 of SBALM. He often uses it to create vines to help the heroes to climb on the mountain cliff.
- Apparently, it has once been stated by fans that he copied most of the Harmony Warrior System's functions, which clearly infuriates Nijimia.

Trivia
- Touching him will result in getting a brief static shock. This is likely because his cybernetic body parts are conductive despite all of them being made from bio-titanium alloy.
- He can activate his PokéPilot without a PokéPet just fine. It gets an error should he have serious doubts, however.
- He is like Superman: exceptionally gifted in physical combat, senses, and durability compared to his relatives and/or team members, but doesn't use magic nearly as much as the others due to this. Even though he is seen with various weapons. Fans often refer to him as the Superman of the Multiverse.
-
- When as Shadow Hunter, he is like Batman: Both have scientific knowledge, detective skills, and athletic prowess. They are both Prep Time users as well.
- After telling his backstory, he often gets Darth Vader jokes from the other heroes due to both being humans who were turned into cyborgs to save their life. Unlike Darth Vader, however, who became evil, Jim didn't turn evil.
- Jim is resistant to death-force powers due to the fact that he's mostly mechanical, which renders Event Horizon's death-force powers (or even her necrotizing death ray) seemingly useless against him. Because of that, the heroes often use him as cannon fodder when it comes to death-force powers.
- While not exactly related to the fact that everyone in the afterlife become their young selves again, including any offspring they have, Jim is a ordinary 18 year-old human boy in the afterlife.
- Jim's Fairy transformations look weird according to everyone else, especially the sea-themed fairy form earned by going on a quest. He also has jetpacks instead of wings in his IHSS form, something that the Harmony Warrior System doesn't allow for non-cyborgs.
- Even weirder that his Celestial Forms looks like he is wearing a special variant of the CMC-705 power armour. Also, his Celestial Dragon form looks cybernetic than original.
- His appearance in Shining Bonds a la Mode: 340 Years Later resembles a Dreadnought from Warhammer 40k.
-
- He is unable to transform into any magical form he wishes while being fully integrated into the mecha, but he still retains his powers. This may have been a mistake on the writers' part.
- Since it is illegal in the United States to show characters smoking cigarettes in childrens' shows, Jim's smoking in the English dub has to be either cut, edited out (or censored via something like a shadow similarly to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure), or edited to something else like a lollipop.
- When Jim accidentally says he misses Nina in one episode from "Reawakening," Nijimia just gives him a death glare, confirming there is only ONE PokéVerse in the reborn Multiverse. Whether she will appear in "The Last Adventure" anyways is unknown.
- Despite being afraid of bees, Jim has nicknamed his Marshtomp Mudbee. It is unknown why this is the case.
